Part of the Snowdon Theatre was engulfed in black smoke late Saturday afternoon after a three-alarm fire broke out on its second floor.
The theatre on Decarie Blvd. opened in 1937, but has been vacant in recent years. It was known for its architecture and art deco interior.
It was most recently used by a gymnastics centre before the club was forced to move out in 2013 because of the building’s deteriorating state.
Firefighters were still trying to control the fire as of late Saturday afternoon and a cause hadn’t yet been determined.
