Jean Lapierre: Victims of plane crash include wife, two brothers and sister

Former politician Jean Lapierre was travelling to his father’s funeral in Îles-de-la-Madeleine when his plane crashed, killing Lapierre, his wife, his sister and two brothers.

Quebec’s Coroner’s Office identified the seven crash victims.

The family members:

  • Jean Lapierre, 59: A former MP and federal minister, he went on to become a high-profile broadcaster in French and English. He was born in Bassin, Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
  • Nicole Beaulieu, 55: Jean Lapierre’s wife. The couple leaves behind two children, Marie-Anne and Jean Michel.
  • Martine Lapierre: Jean Lapierre’s sister.
  • Marc Lapierre: Jean Lapierre’s brother, he was a director of sales for an optical communications company.
  • Louis Lapierre: Jean Lapierre’s brother. A motorcycle enthusiast, he lived in St-Eustache.

The plane’s crew:

  • Pascal Gosselin: Pilot and a father of three. A pilot since 2010, he was owner of Aéro Teknic, an aviation company based at St-Hubert Airport with 20 employees. The company specializes in aircraft maintenance and avionics. A contributor to Magazine Aviation, Gosselin also owned Wi-Flight, an automated wireless flight-data monitoring product. Before entering the aviation business, he was a dot-com entrepreneur, starting one of Quebec’s first Internet service providers in 1995.

Gosselin’s family issued a statement on Wednesday morning. The family said it is devastated by the tragedy. “Overcome by unspeakable grief,” it offered its sympathies to the Lapierre family, with which it had a close friendship. Noting that it is cooperating with investigators, the family said it wants to grieve in private and will not be issuing further comments.

  • Fabrice Labourel: Co-pilot. Originally from France, He was a flight instructor at CPAQ-AERO. On his LinkedIn page, Labourel said he moved to Canada in 2011 to start his professional pilot training at night and on weekends while working at Siemens in the field of procuring gas-turbine casings and compressors.
