A new Coyote Ugly-style bar set to open on Sherbrooke St. W. in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is drawing criticism from residents and their local councillor.
Peter McQueen, the councillor for the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district denounced the bar, called Jersey’s Saloon, set to open in mid-April.
The bar will be located a block from N.D.G. park, and across from a funeral home.
McQueen said this is the wrong location for such an establishment, saying it is a family neighbourhood.
“How can we attract families to the neighbourhood and local businesses when we allow a place that harkens back to a bygone era,” McQueen said in a statement.
“I’ll do everything I can to defend the interests of residents and businesspeople in my district. We deserve better than this.”
He invited people opposed to the business to make their voices heard at the upcoming borough council meeting on Monday night.
