Police were alerted after a passer-by noticed hooded men dressed in black moving back and forth between the woods and the west entrance to the Reno-Dépôt in Pointe-Claire in the middle of the night March 31.
Montreal Police Constable Hélène Jubinville from Station 5 said officers were responding to the call at around 2:45 a.m. when they witnessed a grey vehicle fail to stop as required at the Fairview Ave. and Trans-Canada Highway intersection — one of the exits from a large parking lot that serves the big-box store. The vehicle took off at top speed.
The speeding car was intercepted. In the back seat, police found unopened boxes of brand new tools. Two 21-year-olds and one 24-year-old from the West Island were arrested.
According to the police report, a window accessing the store’s greenhouse had been smashed. It appeared various tools had been loaded into shopping carts and transported to a getaway vehicle.
