An 11-year-old St. Laurent girl was in hospital in stable condition on Monday as police continued to investigate a possible sexual assault of the girl by a 41-year-old male member of her extended family.
Police say the incident took place Sunday night when the girl was home alone with the male relation, who lives with her family in an apartment on Connaught St.
Police were called at about 10 p.m. after the girl managed to flee the apartment for a friend’s home nearby. The girl’s parents were out at the time of the alleged assault, said Montreal police Constable Dany Richer.
Richer said the girl was interviewed by investigators on Monday but, charges have not yet be laid. The girl’s clothing is being analyzed for evidence.
Police said late in the day Monday that the crime scene investigation was over and the suspect was being questioned by investigators. They said he would appear in court on Tuesday afternoon but that the charges had not yet been determined.
