As the search continues for the suspect in the killing of a 20-year-old Maxi supermarket employee Sunday night, police are urging the public to keep their eyes open and be vigilant.
Police have fielded several calls from Montrealers since releasing surveillance camera screenshots of the suspect Monday night, but none of the calls have led to new information, said Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière on Tuesday morning.
Around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, a man dressed all in black entered the Maxi supermarket on Crémazie Blvd. E. in St-Michel and stabbed 20-year-old Clémence Beaulieu-Patry to death. Despite there being about 30 people in the store at the time, the armed suspect managed to flee the scene. He left the store on foot, but police couldn’t say whether he got in a car from there.
Police couldn’t confirm whether the man was someone Beaulieu-Patry knew or whether it was a random act of violence.
Police have not been able to identify the suspect yet. On Monday, they said the footage they had of him was grainy, and that they were working on refining it.
Police described him as a black man between 25 and 30 years old who stands 5-foot-8. He was wearing a hat, a coat, pants and dark shoes at the time of the crime. He also wore glasses. Anyone with information that could identify or locate the suspect is asked to call Info-Crime Montreal at 514-393-1133.
If someone sees the suspect, Lacoursière urged, “do not confront him.”
“If you’re in his presence, try to keep an eye on him, call 911, and we will have police officers there as quickly as possible,” he said.
The Maxi supermarket reopened Tuesday morning after being closed on Monday while police investigated and shocked employees learned what happened.
