A second funeral will be held for Jean Lapierre and his wife on Saturday.
The former cabinet minister and political commentator and his wife, Nicole Beaulieu, died in a plane crash on March 29, along with his siblings Louis, Marc and Martine Lapierre. The plane was descending to the Îles-de-la-Madeleine airport at the time. The family had been travelling to the islands to attend the funeral of their father, Raymond Lapierre. Both the plane’s pilots, Pascal Gosselin and Fabrice Labourel, also died in the crash.
His first funeral took place on April 8 with his siblings and father.
While Jean Lapierre’s father and siblings were buried in their hometown, he and his wife will be buried in Montreal.
The funeral will take place at the St-Viateur d’Outremont Church at 1175 Laurier St. W. at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The family is asking donations in Lapierre’s honour be made to the Fondation Madeli-Aide, which he founded. The foundation distributes bursaries to students who have to leave the Îles-de-la-Madeleine to pursue post-secondary studies. Donations in Beaulieu’s honour can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
