Quebec’s transport minister will visit a construction site in Berthierville on Monday to find out why a 70-metre beam collapsed and fell into a river shortly after being installed last week.
The 68-tonne beam is part of a Highway 40 overpass that is being built over a river, about 60 kilometres northeast of Montreal.
Jacques Daoust will meet with those responsible for the construction site. The Commission des normes, de l’équité, de la santé et de la sécurité du travail (CNESST), formerly Quebec workplace safety board, is investigating the incident. The construction workers had just left the site before the beam fell on Thursday. There were no injuries.
