This weekend is Montreal’s grand cleanup weekend, when citizens are called on to beautify their neighbourhoods by pitching in and cleaning up their roads and alleyways, front yards and parks. The city of Montreal has developed a new online site where citizens can either see if there is a cleaning campaign they can join in their neighbourhood, or create one themselves, and encourage their neighbours, friends and families to help out, anytime between now and Dec. 31. The city will provide cleanup bags, gloves and T-shirts to cleanup crews, as well as a detailed plan on how to organize a cleanup.
The city of Montreal has 10,000 kilometres of streets and sidewalks and 1,200 parks, noted Anie Samson, executive committee member responsible for public security. While the administration is doing its part with street cleaning machines and blue collar workers, it can always use a little help.
