Police will temporarily close streets in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal neighbourhood Sunday as marchers commemorate May Day.
The workers’ rights demonstration should begin at 1 p.m. around Lafontaine Park, move west along Mont Royal Ave. and end at Jeanne Mance Park at 3 p.m.
However, police say there could be other marches planned that violate the city’s controversial P6 bylaw — which makes a protest illegal if marches don’t have their parade route approved by police 24 hours before the event.
In past years, some May Day demonstrations have ended in violence and mass arrests.
