It will be a difficult weekend for the region’s motorists as part of the Ville-Marie Expressway, and half the Champlain Bridge will be closed for construction.
The Ville-Marie will be completely closed in the Viger tunnel sector this weekend for work to cover the tunnel near city hall. The westbound lanes will be closed from Exit 6 for St-Laurent Blvd until the end of the tunnel, while the eastbound lanes will be closed from the beginning of the tunnel on Panet St. until the entrance at Hôtel-de-Ville Ave. The entrances at de la Cathédrale St. and Notre-Dame St. W. for the eastbound expressway will also be closed. The schedule for the work is yet to be confirmed, but it will be either from 10:30 p.m. Friday until 2 p.m. Saturday, or from 10 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. on Monday. The blitz of work is needed to dismantle the pedestrian passageway over the expressway that links the Champ-de-Mars métro station with city hall and Old Montreal.
The work is happening on the same weekend as a work blitz on the Champlain Bridge. The bridge will be closed in the Montreal direction, at a schedule to be determined.
