A man who threatened over the phone to shoot a judge has been sentenced to nine months in jail.
Radoslaw Wronski made the threat in 2014 after he arrived late for a Montreal court appearance and found out the judge had already rendered a judgment in the case in his absence.
He made the threat from home without identifying himself, but court officials taped the call and were able to retrace him by the phone number.
Wronski admitted he said the words, but told the court it was because he was angry and frustrated.
“The dissatisfaction felt by the accused toward the judge’s decision did not justify his behaviour and must be denounced,” Quebec Court Judge Natalie Fafard wrote in her sentencing ruling this month.
She said judges need to be able to render their decisions “in a climate of serenity,” without fear of menace or intimidation.
In addition to nine months in jail, Wronski got two years’ probation.
