A group of masked anti-gentrification protesters vandalized a specialty food counter and grocery store Saturday night in the Sud-Ouest borough of Montreal.
Between 25 and 30 protesters clad in black entered the store in the St-Henri neighbourhood, 3734, around 8:40 p.m., toppling merchandise and placing anti-gentrification stickers on the windows, police said.
The owners of 3734 responded to the vandalism on Facebook.
“We have a hard time understanding what makes us the representatives of savage capitalism (…) We are not multinationals, but small tradespeople who work non-stop,” they wrote in the statement.
Smoke bombs were also used in the incident but did not cause any damage.
No one was injured, and no arrests have been made.
