A small section of the construction site of the $2-billion CHUM superhospital was flooded Monday morning after a worker accidentally broke a valve.
The worker was on a mobile platform checking a pipe. When the platform was moved on its wheels it struck the valve, causing it to gush water.
The flood affected an area measuring five metres by six metres, said Stéphane Mailhot, an official with Construction Santé Montréal, the consortium in charge of construction of the new Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal.
“We were able to fix it quickly,” Mailhot said.
Three years ago, the construction site was hit by a major flood that required that workers replace drywall that was infested by mould. That flood occurred because the building wasn’t fully sealed at that time, Mailhot explained.
