A man in his 20s was shot during an altercation on Crescent St. Wednesday night in front of a crowd of stunned onlookers.
A witness said he was having a pint with a friend when he heard yelling coming from across the street in front of a hotel. When he looked over, he saw a man brandishing a gun.
Seconds later, gunshots rang out on Crescent St. close to René Lévesque Blvd. Several men fled north on Crescent St. and the gunman ran into an alley behind the hotel.
The witness, who didn’t want his name published, said he was so shocked he didn’t run for cover. “I was pretty astonished to be front-row centre in such an event,” he said about an hour after the shooting.
Police located a suspect a few blocks away, said Constable Manuel Couture of the Montreal police.
A short time later, a victim turned up at a Montreal hospital with gunshot wounds. The man is not cooperating with police, Couture said. Police do not have a motive for the shooting.
