The annual Grand Prix du Canada is considered by many as the unofficial kickoff to summer festival season in Montreal.

Thousands of Formula 1 fans from around the globe converge on Montreal to enjoy downtown street parties, check out the city’s celebrated night life, before heading out to Sunday’s big race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Grand Prix festivals are taking place on both Crescent St. and Peel St., which are closed to traffic for the weekend, between Ste-Catherine St. and Boul. de Maisonneuve.

The Montreal Gazette spoke to F1 patrons, as well as those who came just for the party on Crescent St., about the city’s vaunted Grand Prix experience.

Most patrons agree that, like the weather, F1 fever is starting to heat up.
