An 88-year-old woman died after being stabbed in the upper body Tuesday afternoon in Montreal’s east end. The woman was in a duplex on de Beaurivage St. north of Notre-Dame Blvd. E. in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough when she was stabbed in the upper body at 4:40 p.m., Montreal police spokesman André Leclerc said. The woman was taken to a hospital, initially listed in critical condition, then died a few hours later.
The alleged assailant, a 71-year-old man, attempted to escape by car, but was apprehended and arrested a few blocks from the scene by police responding to 911 calls.
Tuesday evening, police said they were still seeking a motive for the crime or any links between the victim and her presumed aggressor. It is the seventh homicide on Montreal’s territory in 2016.
