Just before the Montreal Olympics, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau took part in a memorial service in Montreal for 11 Israeli athletes killed four years earlier at the 1972 Games in Munich.
Trudeau spent a lot of time in Montreal during the Games.
Two days before the opening ceremony, Trudeau joined Canadian athletes at a reception atop Mount Royal.
“Wearing an open-collared jersey and leather jacket (he) was in a mood reminiscent of his early political campaigning, as he kissed women team members and at one point began sparring with a member of the Olympic boxing team,” the Gazette reported.

Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau watches Olympic wrestling, while sons Alexandre (Sacha) age 2, centre, and Justin, age 4, seem content to watch the crowd. The Trudeaus visited the wrestling competition in Montreal on July 24, 1976.
