Laval police are investigating an armed assault that occurred overnight in a residence on Lévesque Blvd. E. in the Duvernay district.
Two men broke in a 29-year-old man’s residence and beat him with a “telescopic baton or a crowbar” while trying to rob his safe, according to police spokesperson Evelyne Boudreau.
“He has severe cuts to his face, on his body,” Boudreau said. “He had deep wounds that even prevented him from speaking at first because it bled so much.”
The suspects fled without gaining access to the personal vault but stole the victim’s cellphone. Still, he managed to call the police from a nearby pay phone, police said.
The victim said he was assaulted at 1:15 a.m., the call came in at 1:45 a.m., according to police. Investigators have yet to identify any of the suspects.
“It isn’t clear for the moment because now the victim, who just got out of the hospital, no longer collaborates with us really,” said Boudreau. “We’ll know more after we investigate the scene.”
