A body discovered in Lac St-Louis near the Beaconsfield Yacht Club has not been identified, but police believe it could be Pierre Lajeunesse, a boater who fell overboard this week, SPVM spokesperson André Leclerc said Friday.
An autopsy will help to confirm the victim’s identity, Leclerc said, as well as clarify the cause of death.
Boaters were out on the water Friday, about one kilometre from shore, when they noticed the body floating nearby. Police officers responded to a call at around 4:40 p.m., and arrived on the scene to investigate.
On Thursday, police called off the search for Lajeunesse, an avid sailor who fell from a sailboat Tuesday night while trying to retrieve a hat that had fallen in the water. A second man on the boat at the time said Lajeunesse had not been wearing a life-jacket.
Lajeunesse’s family has been notified that a body has been found, and are waiting for an identification. In the meantime, police are examining other open missing persons files, Leclerc said.
