A body was discovered in the Gouin Reservoir on Tuesday, close to Obedjiwan in the region of Mauricie.
It was found around 5 p.m. by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The police were searching the area after being made aware of the disappearance of a fisherman.
The latter, who was travelling alone in a boat, was expected to meet up with two others, but never showed up.
These companions made the unfortunate discovery of the capsized vessel, but they did not see anyone nearby. They alerted the SQ Monday evening.
Shortly after their call for help, the police began searching in vain on the banks and in the neighbouring cottages.
Tuesday morning, water patrol boats and divers were dispatched on the scene — through their efforts, the body was found. For now, the identity of the deceased has not been officially confirmed.
This will be done Wednesday by the coroner and family members of the fisherman who disappeared.
According to Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, there is little doubt about the official identification.
“All indications are that this could be the fisherman who was reported missing,” she said.
