Pointe Claire mayor calls press conference to discuss his future

Pointe Claire Mayor Bill McMurchie has called a press conference for 2 p.m. Monday to announce his intentions regarding the upcoming Nov. 3 municipal election.

McMurchie was first elected to Pointe Claire council in 1990 and served as a councillor under Mayor Malcolm Knox for eight years. He was elected mayor in 1998, again in 2001 and returned by acclaimation in 2005, 2009 and  2012.

McMurchie is now 81.

Although the municipal election is three months away, several West Island mayors have announced their plans.

Among those retiring: Ste. Anne de Bellevue Mayor Francis Deroo and Monique Worth, the borough mayor of Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Among those seeking another term: Dollard des Ormeaux Mayor Ed Janiszewski and John Meaney, the mayor of Kirkland.
