Hundreds of unionized Canada Post employees demonstrated outside the constituency office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Montreal on Saturday to try to advance contract negotiations with their employer.

Sylvain Lapointe, chief negotiator of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, said talks with Canada Post are stalled on issues such as pension and pay equity.

CUPW asked the Trudeau government to put pressure on Canada Post to negotiate in good faith with its employees.

Most of the protesters were from Montreal, but some came from Toronto, Ottawa and several regions of Quebec.

The two parties have been negotiating since late 2015.

Canada Post has withdrawn its threat to lock out employees at the beginning of July, claiming it wanted to allow the parties to focus on negotiations.
