Police located a suspect in the stabbing that took place downtown at the Jean-Coutu pharmacy on Ste-Catherine St. W., between Guy and Saint-Mathieu Sts.
The incident took place on Aug. 6 around 9:15 p.m. The suspect tried to leave the store but alarms rang, because detectors found he was allegedly trying to shoplift merchandise from the store. The man fled, but a security agent gave chase.
The suspect turned a corner, and waited for the security agent to catch up to him. The 19-year-old security agent was then stabbed with a sharp weapon. Afterwards, the suspect fled by foot into the Guy-Concordia métro station.
The security guard was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, but his condition stabilized, said Jean-Pierre Brabant, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.
Police arrested Hicham Chaouby, 42, at his home Wednesday in St-Léonard, partly as a result of information submitted by the public.
He was charged Thursday with theft, concealing a weapon and armed assault.
