A cyclist has died in hospital after a collision with a semi-trailer truck in Berthierville on Friday.
Around 2:30 p.m., a cyclist in her 50s was travelling on Route 158 near the access ramp to Highway 40 westbound when the truck hit her, according to Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Claude Denis.
Earlier reports suggested the cyclist had wandered onto the access road.
“The truck driver came back on the scene. He didn’t stop immediately. He came back and met with police officers,” Denis said. The truck driver wasn’t hurt.
An investigation will determine whether there was criminal negligence on part of the driver, Denis said.
SAAQ highway controllers were also on scene Friday evening.
