SOS Vélo is urgently appealing for donations of used bicycles to support its production of refurbished ÉCOVÉLO bikes, made using new and recycled parts.
The company — which offers a social, ecological and environmental alternative to employment — collects nearly 4,000 bikes per year. About 70 per cent of the bikes are restored to working condition.
SOS Vélo works toward the social and professional integration of adults in need. Since its founding in 1996, the company has trained more than 500 people to repair and assemble bicycles from the parts received. Their flagship boutique sells the refurbished bikes, as well as a large selection of adult and children’s bikes below cost.
However, to do this, SOS Vélo needs donations of used bikes. People with bikes to spare can drop them off at the shop at 2085 Bennett St. or call 514-251-8803.
Employees of SOS Vélo will collect the unused bicycle, no matter its condition.
