One man is dead after a car fleeing the scene of gunshots collided with his vehicle in Montreal North early Thursday morning.

Police responded to calls around 4:15 a.m. when residents of Montreal North reported to authorities that they had heard explosions like gunshots on Charland St.

Two cars that were spotted soon after quickly fled the area and headed south on St-Michel Blvd. Soon after, one of the drivers hit another car, seriously wounding a passenger inside. The 76-year-old man was transported to a hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries Thursday evening.

SPVM officers had arrived shortly after the collision and arrested the 22-year-old driver. He will be appearing in court Friday on charges of dangerous driving causing death.

Officers also found that the suspect’s vehicle had indications of what could be gun shots. The other driver who was seen fleeing Charland St. has not been located.
