Students dreading the end of summer might have caught a brief reprieve — at least at FACE.

The start of the school year has been delayed by two days to Wednesday, Aug. 31, to give the institution time to clean up from a summer of renovations on the Fine Arts Core Education school’s third and fourth floors.

In a letter to parents, FACE director Annie Lamarre said this will also enable members of personnel to complete school planning and organization work.

“During the school year, there’s always flexible days scheduled, put aside for snow days (and similar disruptions),” said Mike Cohen of the English Montreal School Board. “Within the school calendar, they’ll very easily find a way to make up the days.”

Alain Perron of the Commission scolaire de Montréal (CSDM) said the delay has nothing to do with the lead that was found in the school’s drinking water earlier this year.
