The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes (BEI) is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in St-Cyrille de Wendover, near Drummondville, on Friday.
The man died during an intervention with Sûreté du Québec around 9:45 p.m., according to the BEI.
Two police officers responded to a call about a family argument and confronted a 41-year-old man armed with a knife, the BEI said in a short news statement.
After a brief discussion with police, the man allegedly rushed towards them with his knife.
He was shot at least once and died, the BEI said, and now six investigators will look into the incident.
Montreal’s police department will help with the investigation.
The Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes investigates every incident where a person other than a working officer dies or is seriously injured by a police weapon during an intervention.
