Suspect flees after bank robbery, car crash in Mile End

The suspect in a bank robbery and subsequent car crash was still at large Friday night after Montreal police searched the Mile End area and failed to locate him.

Around 11:30 a.m., two suspects entered a bank on Bernard Ave. near Hutchison St. After the heist, the suspects fled the scene by car, ultimately travelling east on St-Viateur Ave. As they passed through an intersection, they collided with another vehicle heading south on St-Urbain St.

One suspect, the woman who was driving the car, was arrested at the scene following the crash. The other suspect, a man, fled and has yet to be located by police.

In the early afternoon, the SPVM was combing the area with the intervention squad and the SWAT team, and asked residents to lock their doors and stay inside. St-Viateur St. was closed but later reopened after police failed to locate the suspect.

No one was injured in the robbery or the collision.
