About 100 striking employees of the Old Port of Montreal erected a camp near their employer’s offices on de la Commune St. Friday.
The Alliance de la fonction publique du Canada union members have been on strike since late May. Spokesperson Marie-Pier Simard said the workers planned to occupy the premises until an agreement has been ratified by union members.
Around 9:30 a.m., police asked the workers to leave the area.
Members rejected a conciliator’s offer and say they want to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible. Their demands include a wage hike and sick leave.
