Jazz legend Oliver Jones, community volunteer Miriam Green and Townshippers’ Association president Gerald Cutting will be honoured with the eighth annual Sheila and Victor Goldbloom Distinguished Community Service Award next month, the Quebec Community Groups Network announced.

A week before his death on Aug. 16, federal MP Mauril Bélanger was also recognized by the Goldbloom Awards jury for his lifelong commitment to linguistic duality.

“This year’s honourees have all gone above and beyond in contributing to the vitality of Quebec’s English-speaking community,” said QCGN jury chair Irene Tschernomor.

Dafina Savic, who founded Romanipe, a Montreal-based organization that advocates for the rights of Roma, was named the second winner of the Young Quebecers Leading the Way Award.

A recognition ceremony will be held for the award winners Oct. 27 at Montreal’s St. James Club. Elysia Bryan-Baynes of Global Montreal will emcee.

The non-profit QCGN (www.qcgn.ca) brings together 48 English-language community organizations across Quebec.
