A man in his 60s is expected to appear in a Sherbrooke courtroom Monday to face charges of luring a child over the Internet.
The French man was arrested Sunday morning, the day after his arrival in Canada, Sherbrooke police said. He is alleged to have communicated for more than a year with a 15-year-old girl with the goal of having sex with her, police said.
The suspect, 61, recently moved to Sherbrooke, police said. They allege he met the teenager on an online gaming site and that they exchanged hundreds of emails and sexual images. The man was found by the girl’s parents on their property.
Sherbrooke police say more charges could be filed after consultations with the cybercrime unit of the Sûreté du Québec.
