You may need an umbrella today. We’re in for mainly cloudy conditions with a few showers this morning. Skies will clear late in the afternoon, Environment Canada is saying, with the temperature steady near 20 and a humidex of 25.

Tonight’s temperature drops to — Brrr! — single digits with a low of 9 and clear skies.

The loonie: At 6:20 a.m., the Canadian dollar was worth 75.9 cents U.S.

Coming up today:

You’re in for something special if you are going to see Don Henley at the Bell Centre tonight. The legendary Eagles co-founder will be playing songs from his four-decade career, including his fifth solo album, Cass County, which was released last year. One reviewer on the DC Metro Theater Arts site, who saw Henley perform in Vienna, Virginia, last week, described him as “Americana at its best” and said his “musical craftsmanship holds up to the test of time.” The Montreal Gazette’s Jordan Zivitz did a Q & A with Henley last week: Tap here to read it.

On the political scene, in Rivière-Rouge, Laurentides-Labelle MP David Graham will make an announcement regarding Kiamika Regional Park. In Shawinigan, Saint-Maurice-Champlain MP François-Philippe Champagne will make an announcement about a cultural institution and museum there. Meanwhile, the federal NDP continues its caucus retreat in Montreal, while the federal Conservative caucus meets in Halifax.

And from the That’s News to Me department comes this: The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission is hosting an online discussion on how the Wireless Code is helping Canadians address the issues with their wireless services. Didn’t know there was a Wireless Code protecting you? Tap here to read about it and to participate in the CRTC’s discussion forum. You have until Sept. 26 to have your say. Sept. 26.

In sports action, the Paralympic Games continue in Rio de Janeiro and World Cup of Hockey action will see Czech Republic vs. North America (in Pittsburgh at 3:30 p.m.), Canada vs. Russia (in Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m.) and Sweden vs. Europe (in Washington at 7 p.m.).

Any human anywhere will blossom in a hundred unexpected talents and capacities simply by being given the opportunity to do so. – Doris Lessing
