ST-HYACINTHE — A man was charged Wednesday in the death of Isabelle Lavoie, who died early Tuesday morning.

Maxime Labrecque appeared in the St-Hyacinthe courthouse Wednesday, and will be detained at least until a bail hearing Oct. 3.

Police were called to the home on Des Seigneurs St. W. near Du Moulin Ave. 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived, they found a window of the rear door was broken, and both the man and the woman were seriously injured inside the home. Both were taken to a hospital, and Lavoie was declared dead several hours later. She was 31 years old.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Claude Denis said Tuesday that police believe the attack was the result of conjugal violence. Police said the couple had recently separated.
