Longueuil police say they arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with the savage beating of a jogger on a trail in the Mont St-Bruno provincial park.
The incident happened on Sept. 2 when a woman in her 50s was on a trail near Lac des Bouleaux in a secluded area of the park. She was attacked, and her attacker ran off. She was taken to a hospital and treated for serious injuries, but released a few days later.
Police had been circulating a sketch of the man based on witness accounts, and had stepped up patrols of the park in recent weeks. They also set up a mobile command post in the park, and were approaching anyone who entered the park on Sept. 9 asking if they had seen the person. Police received more than 250 tips from the public about the attacker.
Longueuil police would not give information about the man who was arrested, saying only he will likely face charges in the courthouse on Wednesday.
