A St-Hyacinthe high school is grappling with news that two of its students allegedly plotted to murder three of their classmates and rape another.

Faculty at École Polyvalente Hyacinthe-Delorme met with administrators Monday morning to coordinate the school’s response to the alleged plot. Social workers are on site to help students and teachers cope with what promises to be a tense few weeks, according to a statement by the Commission solaire St-Hyacinthe.

Two teens, aged 14 and 16, were charged last Thursday with three counts of conspiracy to commit murder and assault. Police say they were warned of the alleged plot by one of the suspects’ parents, who was disturbed by her son’s online activity.

A search of the suspects’ locker uncovered a knife and a large quantity of sleeping pills, which police claim would have been used to drug a female classmate and sexually assault her.

Sûreté du Québec sergeant Daniel Thibodeau said police believe the suspects were ready to follow through on their plan and likely would have had it not been for the vigilance of one of the boys’ mother.

Though police are still investigating the allegations, a report by TVA Nouvelles claims that the suspects were motivated by revenge.

More to come.
