At least three senior citizens in the West Island over the last two months have been targeted by fraudsters pressuring them to change their homes’ heating system.

Two seniors in Roxboro and one in Pierrefonds were visited by two men who said they should get rid of their oil heating systems because there would be no more oil available by 2018.

Montreal Police Constable Daniel Maheu from Station 3 said that is not true and people should not be fooled by the sales pitch.

The men were trying to sell a new heating system and told their targets that to take advantage of an available grant and discount, the contract had to be signed within 24 hours.

The two seniors in Roxboro refused to sign a contract.

However, a 70-year-old man from Pierrefonds did sign a contract with the understanding that the installation of the new system would not be expensive. He consequently received a bill for $20,000.

Police are investigating.
