Police divers are scouring Lac St-Louis for a fisherman who fell in the water early Saturday morning.
The missing man, 38, boarded a small boat with three friends in Pointe-Claire at about 10 p.m. Friday. Police say they were in the water somewhere between Pointe-Claire and Châteauguay around 3 a.m. when the 38-year-old fell into the lake.
“Two of the men he was with jumped in to try to find him, but they couldn’t,” said Sgt. Claude Denis, a spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. “They called 9-1-1 and we’re doing everything we can to find him.”
There were reportedly life jackets on the boat, but it’s unclear if the missing man was wearing one.
As of Saturday afternoon, the SQ had deployed its helicopter and divers in an effort to find the man, but to no avail. The coast guard is also scanning the area in a helicopter and on boats.
About 20 firefighters also joined the search party.
Sgt. Denis said police aren’t making any assumptions about whether the missing man is dead or alive. Given the cold evening weather, however, hypothermia is a risk for anyone who spends a long time in the water.
