The man who died Sunday in Île-Perrot when he was struck by at least one bullet that is alleged to have been fired by a Sûreté du Québec police officer has been identified.
Chad Murphy, 45, was a resident of Île-Perrot, the Bureau des enquêtes indépendantes said on Wednesday.
The BEI called on Montreal police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
SQ officers answered a call about a man threatening suicide, the BEI said. They traced his cellphone to his home. When they arrived, a man with a knife rushed them, the BEI said, and shots were fired. The man died of his injuries.
