Schoolyard property on the grounds of the Sinclair Laird Elementary School in Park Extension will not be sold to a private daycare operator to make room for a new two-storey daycare centre, the English Montreal School Board announced Friday.
The EMSB, owners of the property, had considered making the sale, but it met with vigorous opposition in May from residents and parents of school children who did not want to give up part of their schoolyard. At a Sept. 26 information meeting held by the EMSB, all 34 parents who filled out a survey on the matter said they were against selling the land and wanted to keep the green space for the school and the community. Two days later, the EMSB’s council of commissioners agreed not to sell the property.
