Police are investigating an attempted extortion after a 22-year-old man complained that a woman he met online threatened to post sexually-explicit videos of him if he didn’t pay up.
The incident took place August 28 at about 1:20 p.m. The X-rated affair started on an online dating website, said Montreal community relations officer Hélène Jubinville at Station 5 in Pointe Claire.
After communicating for about 30 minutes on the online dating website, Jubinville said, the man agreed with the woman he had just connected with online to make a sexually-explicit video of themselves.
The idea was that they would both perform solo sex acts over the lunch hour and, share the videos with each other in real time.
As the man made his video in his car (with tinted glass windows) that was parked outside his West Island workplace, Jubinville said, the video went wonky and somehow his image started playing back to him.
At that time, Jubinville said, the woman revealed that he had been recorded and she would upload the compromising images if he didn’t come up with money, the sum of which was not disclosed.
“We tell kids don’t take compromising pictures of yourself and post them online,” Jubinville said. “That message is for everyone.”
The investigation continues.
