For the second time in less than a week, a gas leak caused the closing of a roadway that is part of the block surrounding the Bell Centre.
Several firetrucks could be seen parked on St-Antoine St. W. late Sunday morning as firefighters worked to deal with a gas leak next to the home of the Canadiens.
Montreal police spokesperson Constable Raphael Bergeron said the gas leak caused the closing of St-Antoine W. and the partial closing of Peel and de la Montagne Sts. Police officers were called in to direct traffic at a few nearby intersections where traffic lights were not working because electricity in the nearby area was shut off because of the leak.
By 2 p.m., the Montreal fire department said on Twitter the security perimeter had been lifted and all streets in the area were reopened.
On Tuesday, a similar problem was caused, during the morning rush hour, after a construction crew working on a condo tower near Avenue-des-Canadiens cut a gas line.
