Former Montreal mayor Michael Applebaum goes on trial on corruption charges. Applebaum, who was borough mayor of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce before taking over the mayoralty from Gérald Tremblay, is accused of 14 counts of fraud, breach of trust and conspiracy relating to two development projects in the borough. It is alleged that between 2000 and 2012, he received payment in return for approving zoning changes. He was arrested in June 2013 while mayor of Montreal, and resigned the following day.
