Tis the season for snow, apparently, even if it is still technically autumn. Environment Canada is calling for about 5 centimetres of the white stuff today, with the temperature holding steady around minus 1. And there’s wind in the forecast, too: 40 km/h gusting to 60.
Tonight, light snow is expected to end overnight, with 30 km/h wind gusting to 50 and the temperature dipping to minus 2.
The loonie: At 6:30 a.m., the Canadian dollar was worth 74.2 cents U.S.
Coming up today:
The first stretch of the new Route 136, which will replace Highway 720, will open to traffic for the first time. Give yourself some extra time if you drive to work downtown and take Highway 20 east or the Décarie Expressway (Highway 15 south). During the weekend, the four-lane eastbound Ville-Marie Expressway between the Turcot Interchange and Guy St. was permanently closed and eventually will be demolished. Route 136 is currently only two lanes and will be expanded to four lanes in 2018. The reduction in lanes will probably cause some — if not major — congestion. Transport Quebec is urging commuters to take public transport instead of using their cars.
Montreal City Council will hold its regular monthly meeting.
The International Emmy Awards will be presented at a gala in New York. Three Canadian series are among the nominees in the 10 categories, including Montreal drama series 19-2.
