The Longueuil agglomeration is governed in an unfair and dysfunctional way, mayors of merged cities such as Brossard, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Saint-Lambert say.
The mayors are claiming they “pay too much for Longueuil.”
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday evening, they asked Longueuil Mayor Caroline St-Hilaire to hold a meeting with all mayors to discuss reforming how the agglomeration is governed.
Brossard Mayor Paul Leduc, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville Mayor Martin Murray and Saint-Lambert Mayor Alain Dépatie are calling for changes in the way the agglomeration is financed. They want regulations framing the agglomeration council changed to make it so only mayors can sit on it.
The municipal leaders would also like the agglomeration’s administration to become independent from the city of Longueuil.
