Quebec City police spent Tuesday night searching an area in the town of Lac-Beauport, where they believe they might uncover a body.
A spokesperson for the force, David Poitras, said searches were continuing Wednesday morning in a mostly wooded and isolated area. Poitras said the person had been reported missing this year, but recent information received during the investigation led police to believe a body could be found in Lac-Beauport.
“For the moment, we can’t establish whether the missing persons case is criminal in nature,” Poitras said.
Since the person’s family hasn’t been told about the new information, Poitras added, police aren’t releasing the person’s name.
Lac-Beauport is 25 kilometres north of Quebec City.
