Service on the Candiac commuter rail line was not affected by planned demonstrations in solidarity with Standing Rock protesters in North Dakota.
The Agence métropolitaine de transport had warned commuters Thursday morning that the line could be affected by planned protests on the edge of the St. Lawrence railway bridge in Kahnawake, which is on Canadian Pacific track used by the AMT.
However, there were no major delays on Thursday morning.
Caroline Julie Fortin, a spokesperson for the AMT, said despite the protests, trains were rolling through the area as planned. One train was delayed by less than five minutes because the driver slowed down through the protest area.
Fortin said there is still a slight possibility that the trains will be delayed in the evening.
On Nov. 16, a demonstration in the same place forced the AMT to cancel service for the day. South Shore transit users and those who took the train from LaSalle station travelled to downtown Montreal via bus during that protest, which was organized by indigenous people in solidarity with pipeline protesters in North Dakota.
The Candiac line includes stations in Candiac, Delson, St-Constant and Ste-Catherine.
