The 33rd Operation Nez Rouge has entered the final sprint.
The non-profit organization says they have driven fewer people this year, as holidayers appear more likely to stay at home or with relatives. But the presence of volunteers remains essential to meet the needs of drivers in all regions of Quebec.
Spokesperson David Latouche says some volunteers have been working on Christmas Eve for 33 yars. For them, it’s a great opportunity to celebrate volunteering while participating in a good cause.
However, Nez Rouge will no longer report how many rides it’s given as of the end of the campaign Dec. 31. The organizers say they will take stock at a press conference in January.
Founded in Quebec City in 1984, the non-profit organization offers its service in more than 100 communities in seven provinces. Outside Quebec, it is known as Operation Red Nose.
In Montreal, the number to call for a ride is 514-256-2510.
