Montreal police found a 37-year-old man stabbed in the chest in the city’s east end in what they suspect was a drug-related attack.
Police received a call at 8 p.m. Monday reporting a stabbing at Chambly and Ste-Catherine streets. However, when the officers arrived they did not find a victim.
A few minutes later, police received a call about an injured ma at the corner of Hochelaga St. and Pie-IX Blvd. The officers who arrived on the scene did find the victim, who told them that he had been stabbed in a taxi at Chambly and Ste-Catherine.
“The man told police that he was in the taxi when a man who was outside walked up to him and stabbed him,” said Montreal Police spokesperson Benoit Boiselle. The victim then got out of the taxi and staggered away.
Police do not know whether the victim and assailant knew each other but suspect that the attack was related to drugs.
The victim was rushed to hospital and is in critical condition, Boiselle added.
